Just Garden Project


The Just Garden Project builds a just food system and a culture of gardening for all people. We do this by building gardens, educating gardeners, celebrating our community and engaging youth in our work. Through   our programs we work to simultaneously end hunger and food related health issues by nurturing a culture of gardening for the generations to come.

Stephanie Stephanie Seliga-Soulseed’s people are Irish, English, German, French, Scottish, Dutch and Nez Perce. Her passion for food justice is rooted in a vision for powerful social change. Since 2006, she has been building food gardens for families with low incomes. As the founder and program manager of the Just Garden Project, she feels blessed to be doing the work she believe in—building a community food system that really works for everyone.She lives, plays and gardens in Seattle’s Rainier Valley with her husband, Michael Seliga-Soulseed. They are welcoming their first child into the world this February and are learning to walk as parents.
Arianne 4Arianne Bergman grew up as an amateur naturalist, roaming the parks of Seattle, raving about edible plants and salmon habitats before finally realizing the righteousness of farming in college. Since then, she’s bothered people across the globe with questions about their food, what it means to them and asking where it comes from. As the AmeriCorps volunteer with Just Garden and a Seattle native who grew up in a low-income household, she’s thrilled to serve her community by helping them learn to grow their own food and rediscover lost cultures of health and food security. In the off-hours, Arianne mentors young poets, furtively practices banjo and dances with her clogging group.
MarlenaJust Garden Project has taken on a new Jesuit Volunteer for the Food and Faith initiative. California raised Marlena Nip has always loved the outdoors, sunshine and, most importantly, food. She spent most of her childhood in the pool and went on to swim for Loyola Marymount University’s Division 1 swim team. After spending a week in Haiti learning about food security issues, she knew she wanted to commit herself to educating people about the importance of working together with local communities to grow their own food and buy locally as much as possible. She is thrilled to begin post college life in Washington, her mother’s home state, and to start working for Seattle Tilth!
