South End Summer Happenings

Introducing the New Food and Farm Hub

We’re pleased as peaches to introduce the new Food and Farm Hub! The 5,000 square foot building is one of the first multi-use food spaces of its kind in Seattle. Seattle Tilth Produce had been looking for a space to pack 150 Good Food Bags and 300 weekly CSA boxes, increase cold storage and receive deliveries from local farmers — and now we’ve found a new home!

Our team has spent long hours building a walk-in cooler and can now receive and distribute fresh, organic produce and food from local farmers. The community space is shared by Seattle Tilth Produce, Juicebox, Seattle Farm Co-Op and possibly a future spot for City Fruit – with some space still available. Southeast Effective Development (SEED), signed the master lease for the building, establishing one of the first multi-use food spaces of its kind in Seattle.

It’s Open! New Gate at Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands

The gate is OPEN! You can now enter Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands from Beer Sheva park. The gate was designed and constructed by local artists Jean Whitesavage and Nick Lyle. Many thanks to Seattle Parks Foundation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the artists and the Committee of 33 who funded it. Check out the new gate when you come to our Farm Stand, every Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Lend a hand during our work parties also held on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and learn about growing food and protecting wetlands through hands-on experience. (Get directions to the farm.)

Bounty Booming at Bradner Gardens Park

Volunteers at Bradner Gardens Park have been harvesting a great bounty this summer! Members of the volunteer Veggie Crew have harvested lots of spring crops including 20 lbs. of beets, 5 lbs. of onions, 14 lbs. of cabbage and loads of other vegetables. Thanks to our exceptionally warm weather this year, summer crops like tomatoes, peppers, popcorn and squash are growing very well. Want to be part of the action? Get your hands dirty as part of our volunteer veggie crew every Tuesday; 4-7 p.m.
