Spring Into Bed a Success

The Just Garden Project’s fourth Spring Into Bed event was a beautiful success thanks to our dedicated volunteers and enthusiastic gardeners! Over 75 volunteers came out to the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle on Saturday, March 23 and donated more than 400 hours to build 14 gardens for low-income families. These gardens will help over 200 individuals in the High Point neighborhood grow nutrient-dense, organic and local food.

High Point is a Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) mixed-income community of about 2,000 where income per capita is 64.9% less than the Seattle average. Low-income communities are often subjected to a lower quality of food, fewer fresh fruits and vegetables and limited access to organic options.

In High Point, the nearest grocery store is a Thriftway located over a mile away and considered unaffordable for most families which leaves the local Walgreens as the closest location where fresh produce is available. The gardens built during Spring Into Bed will help ensure that many families and individuals in High Point will have affordable and convenient access to the freshest produce for years to come.

The Just Garden Project became a Seattle Tilth program at the end of 2012.

Join us at the Redmond Spring Into Bed!

Did you miss the High Point Spring Into Bed?  If so, we’d love your help at our Redmond Spring Into Bed on Saturday, May 18!  We’ll be building gardens at 10 sites across the city of Redmond including Redmond Elementary School, Albert Einstein Elementary School, the Redmond YWCA and Old Firehouse Teen Center. Please join us for a fun day of building gardens and celebrating our community and thriving food system! To get involved, please sign up to volunteer on our website or email Wendi at wendijiang@seattletilth.org if you have any questions or are interested in a garden.

Special Thanks to our Sponsors
