Experienced volunteers and interns work regularly at the farm planting, harvesting, and completing other tasks. In May, 31 volunteers donated 155 hours at the farm. At least ten groups including a Brownie troop, Aki Kurose Middle School students, the Seattle Junior League, Environmental Protection Agency volunteers, Seattle University Latreia group, Microsoft new staff volunteers and the Rainier Scholars completed service days at the farm and offered to come again for more service.
High school students who had come to the farm on field trips continued to return as volunteers and five Aki Kurose Middle School students came to volunteer at the farm after learning about it from their teacher.
The Saturday work parties have continued this quarter, and drew new volunteers who heard about the RBUFW through the RaVE outreach events or classes. The volunteers’ hard work is evident in the pounds of produce being shared with local residents that is leading to reducing hunger and increasing intake of healthy foods.
