The design process for the new Beacon Food Forest starts this month! There will be two community design workshops to create a “Food Forest” adjacent to the west side of Jefferson Park along 15th Avenue South. A food forest is a community gardening technique that resembles a woodland ecosystem. Trees, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables are all planted and maintained in the food forest. Potential elements include: a community P-Patch, plant guilds, community gathering places, interpretive educational signage, compost areas, and connections to existing park facilities. Read more about the Beacon Food Forest project here.
All neighbors are encouraged to participate in the design workshops — bring your ideas!
