The Steering Committee of the Rainier Beach Learning Garden group applied for and was awarded a Small and Simple matching fund from the Department of Neighborhoods in 2009. We are now in the process of community meetings to come up with a vision for the redesign and expansion of the garden space. Community members will work with Seattle Parks Department and Barker Landscape Architects to design and implement a learning garden which will help make the garden a valuable place for the entire Rainier Beach community to learn and grow.
Last week was our first community design session starting the process of redesign and expansion. Thanks to all who attended the first public meeting, March 23, 2010. Barker Landscape Architects are now compiling all the comments and suggestions about the site into different concepts for the expansion of the garden, which will be presented at the next public meeting on April 20th.
